This June, I had the opportunity to go to New York, and tour a bit of the city with Inimitable Books founder Zara Hoffman.
We met at Emily, West Village for lunch–they have great pizza and cocktails–and some talk about books… and by books I mean my upcoming thriller, Mother Mercy. We also treated ourselves to some Emotional Damage, a tasty drink that was especially fitting because this book, let me just tell you! If you’ve followed any of my writing on Flash Fiction Live, you know I often write emotional stories with some dark, heavy topics.

Next we made a stop at Goods for the Study, a paper goods store where they have lots of unique designs and just about anything your desk might need. where I got a card that spoke to me. I don’t plan to send it to anyone, but it makes me smile when I look at it.

We also got to visit Books of Wonder, where I scored a signed copy of Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao. They have a great selection of books and lots of signed books so if you’re in the area, you should absolutely go.
After that, we wrapped up the day with drinks at Oscar Wilde. I loved the vibe and aesthetic and it was a great finish to a wonderful day!

While I was there I also had the time to walk around the city, get coffee at Kijitora. They had some cute stamps and stickers so of course I got some as Dobby memorabilia, I don’t think it’s what they had in mind, but it works perfectly.
Lunch Partners Coffee was delicious and after that and a walk back to the hotel, I was absolutely exhausted.
I still managed to submit some flash fiction to a writing contest I had signed up for months before I knew I was going to be traveling. That was rough, but I’m still glad I got to participate. And I’ll be hearing more about how that went so I can really decide how I feel about it.
It was a quick three days, I headed home with some inspiration and deadlines which are just now wrapping up! I find I’m always filled with inspiration when I travel.
