November started out in Omaha, Nebraska. This is my third time in the city and I’m always finding new places to go. This trip was no different, I found a spot that I absolutely love.
The Reading Room is a cozy lounge that opened in June 2025. It’s located on Farnham street in the historic Barker Building. The architecture is beautiful and the antique wooden shelves add to the ambiance. They have a selection of books by local authors as well as some of their latest releases. You can bring your own book or pick one up while you’re there. You can hang out on your own or bring a group to play some of the available games.

Table and bar seating is available so you can work and there’s lots of cozy seating for reading, talking and hanging out. While I was in, I got to know the snacks on the menu plus, coffee, tea, and cocktails. Try the hot chocolate and be sure to get the french vanilla marshmallows, I highly recommend.
They also have trivia nights, open mic poetry, and other community events. I was able to meet the owner, Sam Morley and we had a great conversation about the intention behind the space and the attention to detail that goes into every aspect of the atmosphere. Sam has an eye for detail and a heart for community which has made this space so welcoming.
Of course, this is where I decided to mark Nebraska off my 48 States Flash Fiction Quest. Working here was the most productive I’ve been in ages. I got the flash written and even started working on something new.
Overall, I had a great time in the city. I’ll include more in my November vlog, but I wanted to share some pictures here too. I can’t wait to go back to Omaha and visit The Reading Room again.
