Since it’s the time of year where we start looking at our resolutions and thinking about where we’re going to do, I’ve revised my 300 things.
I’ve been doing this for about five years now and have found it so helpful, in fact it is one of the first YouTube videos I made when I joined AuthorTube and the online writing community. It’s also something that I’ve been able to look back at years later, to see how far I’ve come.

Although my 2025 list was incomplete, I still accomplished almost half of what I wrote down. So I decided to implement a few changes from the preceding years.
One of the early lessons for my list was being more specific, adding things to the list in stages so that each step of the process is noted and success isn’t just measured in a pass fail, but in progress made.
This year, I’m breaking it down more, adding 25 of the 300 things each month. That doesn’t mean that I’m not working on an area till it’s on my list, but it gives me the chance to add new things as my interests develop throughout the year.
Another lesson I learned early on was that if it’s on the list, especially if it’s been a year or more and I’ve made no progress towards it, it means I need to reevaluate the goal. Is there something about my approach that is keeping me from moving forward or is this something that I thought I wanted, but I don’t care enough to do anything about it.
If it’s something I do want, I have to figure out what’s holding me back and how I can change my approach. Sometimes that looks like smaller steps, sometimes it looks like learning more about the goal.
When I realize it’s not a goal I actually want, with 300 things, there’s no pressure to keep it on the list. The whole purpose is to document the things I think I want and see how much of it I do organically.
For January 2026, I started my list with 25 things built around growth throughout the year and how I plan to evaluate my progress. I’ll be using four quarters as regular progress check-ins and I’ll be able to add goals around three main categories; skills, research, and reading.
The beauty is that because there are so many things to work on, I never feel boxed in. If this sounds like something you would enjoy, join my newsletter where I’ll share more details about my 2026 list of 300 things.
